Karachi:The Sindh High Court on Monday issued notices to the federation and the Sindh government, seeking reply over the recently imposed commissionerate system in the province.
The revival of commissionerate system in Sindh province was on Saturday challenged in the Sindh High Court (SHC) through two constitutional petitions filed by three civil society activists.
Advocate Qazi Khalid Ali filed a petition on behalf of the petitioners Ajmal Dalhvi, Editor of Aman newspaper, former Principal DJ College Prof Barrister Habibur rehman and businessman Dr Arshad Abdullah Vohra who impleaded Federal Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and Sindh Chief Secretary as respondents.
They submitted that all political parties, including Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Pakistan People’s Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid), Pakistan Muslim League (Functional), Jamaat-e-Islami, Awami National Party and others had supported the Sindh Local Government Ordinance (SLGO) 2001 in the past as it was successfully implemented not only in developing countries but also in Pakistan, particularly Karachi, Sindh.
