West Bank: Palestinian protesters and international peace activists have demonstrated against the construction of the separation wall and Israeli settlements built on occupied Palestinian land. The peaceful demonstration, held near the village of Bil’in in the occupied West Bank, was confronted with Israeli military forces who fired tear gas canisters and rubber-coated bullets, injuring a number of demonstrators.
Tel Aviv began constructing the West Bank separation wall in 2000. The International Court of Justice has ruled that the wall is illegal and should be taken down.
“As far as I understand it is clearly illegal because it is built on the Palestinian occupied land. So, I think this is why you have all these demonstrations because people here are fighting the root of the wall which is taking some part of their land,” said Theirry Vallant, a French deputy consul.
Palestinians from Bil’in have been peacefully demonstrating against the occupation of their lands and the construction of the separation wall and illegal settlements for the past years.
The protests in the West Bank take place almost on a weekly basis and the protesters have vowed to keep demonstration until the end of occupation of their lands.
Ni’lin, Bil’in, Ma’sarah and Nabi Saleh villages have become a showcase of Palestinian non-violent resistance against Israeli illegal settlement activities and the construction of the segregation wall.
