Peshawar: Eight more people were killed in the fourth drone strike in Pakistan’s northwest tribal region within 24-hours, reaching the death toll to 52, The News Tribe reported.
According to official sources, the latest United States unmanned drone fired 10 missiles in which a vehicle and a compound were targeted in Datta Kehl area of North Waziristan near Pak-Afghan border, killing at least eight people, The News Tribe correspondent reported from Peshawar.
Several others were wounded in the attack. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Earlier in the day, at least 25 people were killed and dozens others received injured in the US drone strikes in South Waziristan.
According to sources the unmanned US aircrafts targeted a house in South Waziristan Agency, killing eight and injuring several others. The sources said that 15 other people were killed when a barrage of missiles hit a residential compound and a vehicle in Darre Nishter area of North Waziristan Agency.
Al least four people were killed in the US drone strike in Bermal Tehsil of South Waziristan.
Meanwhile, 15 people were killed when the US unmanned aircraft fired four missiles, targeting a house and a vehicle parked near the house in Gorwek area of Datta Khel Tehsil near Pak-Afghan border.
Several others were wounded in the missiles attack. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The US rely on its drone campaign run by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in haunting alleged militants in Pakistan’s tribal region while the South Asian country has been opposing the drone strikes publicly saying the attacks prove counter-productive. Security experts say though the Pakistan’s government denounces the attacks launched by the spy planes, it gave a tacit approval to the US for its campaign.
The US intensified drone attacks after the killing of former al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad on May 2. The Pakistani Parliament approved resolution in the joint sitting of the parliament that called for an immediate halt to drone strikes.
Pakistani and international human rights organizations have been strongly condemning the US drone strike operated by CIA operation from unknown destination.
