Islamabad: The Federal Government has ordered the Sindh government to restore commissionerate system in Karachi, a move which has long been opposed by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
The decision was taken in the meeting held here on Friday to review the worsening law and order in Karachi, presided over by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.Those who attended the meeting included Zulfiqar Mirza, Manzoor Wassan, Peer Mazharul Haq and others.
Presidential Spokesman Farhatullah Babar told media that the the Sindh government has been directed to immediately restore the commissionerate system in the metropolis.
He added the step to revive the old system was aimed at maintaining law and order in Karachi.
The meeting was called in the wake of worsening law and order situation as recent waive of ethnic violence have claimed more than 90 lives in Karachi.
On the other hand The MQM’ leader Raza Haroon has said his party would strongly opposed the move to revive the system.
