Peshawar: At least two security officials were killed and 15 others injured when a security convoy was struck by a roadside bomb in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal region, sources said on Tuesday.
The sources said the security officials were attacked in Datta Khel area of North Waziristan Agency near Afghan border. They said a vehicle of security forces was completely damaged in the bomb attack.
Heavy contingent of forces rushed to the spot and launched a search operation in the area. The injured were shifted to a near by hospital for treatment. Local sources said a curfew was imposed in the area.
Pakistan military has long been battling a Taliban-led insurgency in adjacent South Waziristan Tribal area and continuously rejecting a US demand of launching an offensive in North Waziristan against what US said Haqqani Network, a strong faction of Afghan Taliban.
