ISLAMABAD: President of Pakistan on Monday urged recently resigned governor Sindh to reconsider his decision, said Presidential Spokesman Farhatullah Babar.
Babar on Monday conveyed President Asif Ali Zardari’s message to Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad, who on Monday dispatched his resignation, that reconsider his decision.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement said that it was quitting the ruling coalition.
Senior party official Farooq Sattar said the MQM could no longer work with the “dictatorial” government. Although the move was a blow to the government, it was not expected to collapse as it enjoys a comfortable majority in parliament.
“After looking at the undemocratic and dictatorial behavior of the government, we have come to the conclusion that now it has become impossible for MQM to go with this government,” Sattar told a news conference.
The MQM said in a statement the long-standing governor Sindh, who is also a member of MQM, would also step down.
