Washington: Secretary of States Hilary Clinton has said that Afghan war could be won without Pakistan’s support.
She on Thursday said that US military aid to Pakistan could not be provided in current situation. Military aid to Pakistan is not possible unless, repair in ties between both the countries, she added.
“When it comes to our military aid, we are not prepared to continue providing that at the pace we were providing it unless and until we see some steps taken,” Hilary Clinton told a Senate committee.
US Defence Secretary Robert Gates has said that Pakistan has to change its attitude. He said General David Pateaus also wanted slow-pace withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.
Gates said reduction in the military aid to Pakistan has been essential. Obama’s decision of withdrawal US troops from Afghanistan is to gain political support.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan was a key ally for the US and American top leaders including American President Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton had said in their several speeches that success in Afghan war was not possible without Pakistan’s assistance. But, change in American attitude regarding military aid to Pakistan has been observed after the unilateral US raid in Abottabad that led to the death of Osama bin Laden.
Pakistan’s political parties declared the raid an open violation of Pakistani territory and parliament of Pakistan approved a unanimous resolution that such kind of attack would not be tolerated in the future and strict response would be given to the US.
