Lahore: Punjab Law Minister has said that about 30 cops were martyred and 145 criminals were killed within 11 month in Pakistan’s most populated province, said Rana Sanaullah.
Seeking approval for Rs 52.11 billion police budget in the Punjab Assembly, Provincial Law Minister said that police were being unfairly criticised on the issue of encounters as about 30 cops lost lives in shootouts.
He said 85 percent of the total police budget would be spent on payment of salaries, 7.5 percent on fuel and vehicles and only five percent on purchase of new weapons and devices.
He said that a constable receives only Rs 16,850 per month and that was not a hefty amount to be criticised.
