Peshawar: A US drone fired four missiles in northwest Pakistan’s tribal region, killing 24 people and injuring several others, sources said on Wednesday.
The sources said that the unmanned aircraft targeted a house in Shawal area of Miramshah, main town of North Waziristan near Afghan border.A barrage of missile were fired by the US predators on South and North Waziristan tribal region that led to killing of more than 20 people last week.
Pakistani authorities claimed that al-Qaeda’s top commander Ilyas Kashmiri, an alleged mastermind of PNS Mehran attack that wracked havoc on Pakistan’s navy with destroying two US supplied PC-3 Orian aircrafts and killing at least 20 officials , was also killed in South Waziristan in a drone strike that occurred last week. However the US did not confirm Kashmiri’s killing.
The US rely on its drone campaign run by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in haunting alleged militants in Pakistan’s tribal region while the South Asian country has been opposing the drone strikes publicly saying the attacks prove counter-productive. Security experts say though the Pakistani government denounces the attacks launched by the spy planes, it gave a tacit approval to the US for its campaign.
The US intensified drone attacks after the killing of al-Chief Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad on May 2. The Pakistani Parliament approved resolution in the joint sitting of the parliament that called for an immediate halt of drone strikes.
