Sydney: The Australian Cricket Board awarded central contract to 25 players, who were given the contract for 2011/12.
Pakistan-born Australian batsman Usman Khwaja is among the 25 players who got the central contract. Usman Khawaja, 24, who made his test debut for Australia in January, earned his first full contract.
Brett Lee was retained as a limited-overs bowler despite speculation he would retire after the World Cup. Australia’s emerging fast bowler, Ryan Harris, also included in the list of 25 players.
Simon Katich, Marcus North, James Hopes, Andrew McDonald, Clint McKay, Shaun Tait and Adam Voges could not able to retain their contracts.
While 35-year-old Katich lost his place, the 36-year-old pair Ricky Ponting and Mike Hussey retained their places.
Ponting was retained as a specialist batsman after quitting as test and one-day captain following Australia s disappointing World Cup 2011 quarterfinal defeat to India and handing the reins over to Michael Clarke.
