Karachi: At least five people including a policeman and Pakistan Rangers personnel were gunned down in Karachi, the financial hub of Pakistan on Friday.
Several others people were injured while 11 vehicles were torched in separate shooting and violence incidents in the seaport area, when the city observed an strike on the call of Awami National Party (ANP), later religious parties also joined the strike.
Today’s strikes call was given to express solidarity with the protesting employees Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC), The News Tribe correspondent Atif Khan reported.
The business activities remained suspended and public transports off the roads, while patrol stations in various areas of the metropolis were shut, causing immense difficulties for citizens.
Aerial firing and violence incidents were reported in Landhi, Malir, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Mosamiat, SITE, Shaheed-e-Millat Road, Orangi Town, Lyari Town and Keamari Town.
A man was found dead near Jamia Millia College in Malir in the wee hours of Friday within the remits of Al-Falah Police Station, police said.
Police said that they found the body of a young man near Jamia Millia College and shifted it to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center for medico-legal formalities.
The identity of the victim was not ascertained and the body was later moved to the Edhi Morgue.
In another incident a man was killed by firing near NIPA Chowrangi in the limits of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Police Station.
According to a duty officer at the station, unidentified armed gunmen came to a petrol pump and asked the employees to close, and when they refused to do so then the accused opened indiscriminate firing.
As a result a passerby identified as Syed Ali Shah received bullet injuries and rushed to the JPMC where he breathed his last.
Meanwhile, exchange of firing between law enforcing agencies and mob took place near Al-Asif Square in the limits of Sachal police station. Resultantly five people including a policeman and ranger personnel were injured, police officials said.
They said unidentified miscreants were busy in torching vehicles  near Al-Asif Square, when police and rangers rushed the spot and exchange of fire between the mob and law enforcers took place.
As a result, ranger official Mumtaz, Sub Inspector Nawaz Lashari, ASI Khadim Hussain, and two pedestrians Iqbal Anwar and Mushtaq received bullet injuries.
The injured were taken to the JPMC for treatment where rangers’ personnel Memtaz succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The miscreants also set on fire two trucks having registration numbers TPO-4712 and TLH-765 in the same area.
In another incident a 27-year-old Faryal was shot dead in the limits of Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station, police said.
They said that unidentified armed assailants riding bikes opened indiscriminate fire; resultantly Faryal sitting in the hotel received bullet injuries and died on the spot.
Separately a policeman was killed in a shooting incident within Pirabad Police limit.
Police said that PC Mukhtar Ahmad was on his way to Orangi Town police station when unidentified armed gunmen opened fire on him. As a result he received bullet injuries.
The injured was rushed to the Abbassi Shaheed Hospital fro treatment but died during treatment.
Meanwhile, unidentified armed men set on fire a car in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, a truck in Gadap Town, a Suzuki car in Pehlwan Goth, a bike and a rickshaw in Orangi Town, while three vehicles were partially burnt in Gulistan-e-Jauhar area.
