Peshawar: At least Eight people were killed and several others injured in a blast in Bajaur Agency area of Pakistan’s northwest tribal region.
Sources said that the blast took place in Tehseel Salarzai’ headquarter s , killing two tribal elders and injuring several others.
The sources said that Security forces rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.The dead and injured were shifted to district headquarters hospital while a medical emergency was announced in the nearby hospitals.
The sources said that members of an Aman Committee, a pro-government militia’,were targeted in the blast and two senior members Malik Mian Jaan and Malik Tehseel Khan was also killed.
Political administration officials told that the blast occurred in Pasht Bazaar , adding that four shops were also destroyed in the explosion.Police sources said that the blast went off in local hotel, however the report could not be confirmed.
The Pakistan’s army launched a military offensive against the Taliban led insurgency in 2009. Aman Committees are the mercenaries consist of local armed tribes man fighting against extremists in the area and often targeted in suicide attacks.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
