Karachi: As many as 12 terrorists took part in the 18-hour audacious attack on the Pakistani naval base; a police account released here on Tuesday, said.
Earlier on Tuesday Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that four to six terrorists assaulted on the base four whom were killed while two managed to flee.
However, the police in the First Information Report (FIR) said that between 10 to 12 terrorists were involved in the attack. A senior police officer said that the FIR was registered after consultations with senior navy officials.
Security experts were surprised that six people could occupy the base for such a long time against the force of several trained commandos. The experts are raising concerns about extremists’ infiltration of security forces.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Monday claimed that it had sent militants to launch attack on naval base as part of revenge for the killing of al-Qaeda Chif Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad in US Navy SEALs operation.
