Washington: Secretary of State Hilary Clinton has said the United States had made it clear that from the day first when we were attacked that we would go for those who had attacked us, and Osama bin Laden was our prime target in this regard.
While giving an interview to CBS news she said the President Barack Obama made a gutsy decision. We were very delighted that the Abottabad operation succeeded. And we have made it clear to people around the world that if we locate someone who has links to al Qaida leadership, then you get him or we will get him.
She said that we (Obama administration) believe that it was not proven that anybody at the top of the Pakistani government knew where bin Ladin was, but it seems that somebody did know. I said that the first time I went to Pakistan. I said, “It’s hard to believe that somebody in your government somewhere – and it could be some very low-level person – does not know where he is.” And we were having very sincere conversations with Pakistan.
I want to make it clear to your audience that we have had good cooperation on many important strategic interests of the US with Pakistan, and we have supported them in their own fight against the extremists who are killing and threatening their people. But we expect more. We were having conversations about what more we can do together.
When she was asked about tour to Pakistan, she replied that see how the conversations go. Marc Grossman, US special representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan, is in Pakistan now, following up on some of the areas of concern.
