Islamabad: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has submitted an application for the appointment of Ishaq Dar as the opposition leader in the Senate, upper house of the parliament, of Pakistan.
PML-N have submitted an application with the Chairman Senate to appoint Senator Ishaq Dar the as opposition leader of the house along with the nomination of 24 senators.
On the other hand, Chairman Senate has demanded a respite of a week for the appointment of the opposition leader.
According to the new rules, the authority to appoint the opposition leader has been taken away from the senate Chairman. The member who has majority of the support from the opposition members would be nominated as the opposition leader.
According to the previous rules, the opposition leader was nominated by the largest group in the opposition. Currently the largest opposition group is held by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazlur Rehman (JUI-F) with 13 members along with six PML-N senators.
Hence the nomination of Senator Ishaq Dar as the opposition leader by PML-N along with the support of 24 senators is legit under the new rules and would soon be appointed.
