New Delhi: Another goof-up by the Indian agencies in the list of 50 most-wanted fugitives that they posted to Pakistan, an Indian TV reported.
Another person on the 50 most-wanted fugitives list was found in India. The list, handed over to Pakistan, is already turning into a major embarrassment for Indian government after Wazhul Khan, was found to be living in Mumbai, NDTV reported.
Feroz Abdul Rashid Khan, who is also included in the India’s most wanted list, is currently in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail. Khan was jailed for his role in 1993 Mumbai blasts. His name is number 24 on the list. Mumbai Police’s crime branch arrested Feroze Khan in February 2010.
Sources in the Indian Home Ministry said that the CBI has written to the home ministry accepting its fault in the matter. It has said that although the accused was in their custody, it had not removed his name from the Red Corner Notice list and had also forwarded the same to the Ministry of Home Affairs, NDTV reported.
After the huge awkwardness over the goof-up over Wazhul Kamar Khan in India’s most wanted list of fugitives in Pakistan, his profile was dropped from the CBI’s website.
On Wednesday, Home Minister P Chidambaram accepted the inclusion of terror accused Wazhul Kamar Khan in the list of most-wanted fugitives given to Pakistan was an “gaffe”. He said it was a “genuine error” by Mumbai Police and an “oversight” by Indian Intelligence Bureau.
“There was a mistake. We are not trying to blame anyone. We take responsibility for it,” Chidambaram said.
The minister said the CBI was not informed of Wazhul Khan’s arrest by the Mumbai police. “It was also a lapse on the part of the IB,” admitted Chidambaram.
