Washington: At least 281 people were killed during the ongoing waves of tornadoes throughout the south-east states of the United States.
The tornadoes, recently hitting seven states, are being considered as the deadliest cyclone outbreak during the last four decades.
As many as 160 people were died only in the state of Alabama. However the death toll, is expected to be risen.
US President Barack Obama announced to visit Alabama and said in his statement that the government and citizens of the US are ready to assist their affected countrymen.
About 1,400 National Guards are now conducting search and rescue operation.
It is pertinent to mention here that a nuclear power plant named Browns Ferry nuclear power plant, located in Alabama, has been shut down for indefinite period.
