FM is a computer engineer. He did his graduation from Sir Syed University about five years ago. Then he worked for a few firms before going to Australia for master’s.
Now he is back after completing his course. It has been over a year since he returned. But he remains jobless.
He is one of my dearest friends. I remember talking to him nine years ago when we were both standing on our rooftops. He was telling me about his plans. He said he would go to Australia after graduation and when he would return a job paying Rs400,000 to Rs700,000 would be waiting for him. All his hopes have dashed to the ground.
My friend wants a job that pays at least Rs100,000 a month. I think he deserves it. Why shouldn’t he get this much after such extensive and intensive studies when people less qualified and less talented are earning much more than him in public sector organisations?
He applied for a job at the National Bank of Pakistan. He was among the three or four short-listed candidates. Then he came to know that none of those short listed got the jobs. The jobs went to some people who had not even been part of the competition. Similar is the situation at almost all public sector organisations. Private companies are not hiring these days because they are not growing.
What to do? Should he leave this country as most people do? For how long can he afford to remain jobless? He has to support his family. He has to get married as he is already engaged. Isn’t this heartbreaking? For him, for his family, for the girl that is engaged to him?
There is no job for youngsters in this country if they have no “connection”. It’s easier to earn money illegally in this country.
Should parents stop getting their children educated? I will wait for your answer.
