Islamabad:Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Waseem Ahmed sent his resignation to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Wednesday.
Sources said that Inspector General (IG) Balochistan Malik Muhammad Iqbal has been appointed as the DG FIA.
Supreme Court of Pakistan has been directing the government to remove Waseem Ahmed as he spoiled cases of national concern but the government repeatedly ignored the court directions.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in the last hearing of the case regarding contractual government officers had remarked that the court should not be forced to pass judicial orders regarding removal of the DG FIA.
Waseem Ahmed has sent his resignation just ahead of the court hearing which is scheduled on April, 8.
Sources said that Waseem Ahmed in his resignation has said that he tendered his resignation as he did not want state’s institution(executive and judiciary) to be confronted over his resignation.
