Karachi: On the call of All Karachi Traders Ittihad (AKTI) after rising extortion cases, shutter-down strike would he observed today (Tuesday) across Karachi, the financial hub of Pakistan.
Chairman AKTI Atiq Mir has said small traders would not be left alone and every possible support would be provided to the traders. He said small traders would not be left on the mercy of extortionists.
Mir said over 300 trade points would be closed during the strike. He said traders’ lives were not safe and not a single coin of benefit could be taken from police check-post. He said traders have been killing in day light and given life threats but police is playing a role of silent spectator.
Different political parties including Muttahida Qaumi Movment, Sunni Tehrik, Awami National Party and Jamaat-e-Islami have announced to hold with the traders’ strike.
Meanwhile, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry suspended its strike by April 12. Representative of KCCI Siraj Kasim Teli has said that they would close their businesses on permanent basis if fool proof security was not given the given date.
