Islamabad: Pakistani diplomat, who was arrested from Chandigarh on Wednesday during World Cup Indo-Pak semifinal, has been released Thursday late night after a strong protest from Pakistan.
Pakistan Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahmina Janjua confirmed the release of the diplomat, saying recorded strong protest has been recorded over the issue.
Janjua said they were not informed about the reason of the arrest but the diplomat has been released today.
Earlier, Pakistan Foreign Ministry expressed cold shoulder from the news.
Pakistani diplomat was arrested from Chandigardh when India and Pakistan primers’ meeting was under progress during the semifinal of the cricket World Cup 2011.
Indian foreign office sources said that the issue was trying to resolve through mutual understanding. The identity of the arrested diplomat has been kept secret, sources said.
The sources said it is not immediately confirmed that why the diplomat was arrested.
