Islamabad: The Supreme Court on Friday granted 15-day time to the Pakistan People Party (PPP) Sindh chapter leaders Sharjeel Memon and Taj Haider to submit reply in the contempt of court case.
A three member bench of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the contempt of court case against PPP Sindh chapter leaders Sharjeel Memon and Taj Haider for opposing and giving a strike call against SC verdict of declaring appointment of Deedar Hussain Shah as National Accountability Bureau (Nab) chairman illegal.
The two leaders sought 60-day time to submit their written reply into the case.The court rejected the plea and granted 15-day time.
The CJ remarked that it was difficult to issue notice to any one.He asked how many people were killed during the strike. Advocate General Sindh replied that three people were killed.
The CJ remarked that it was the matter of court’s dignity and prestige and not the personal matter, adding under such circumstances the issue has to be taken serious.
The CJ observed that if the legislators would not respect the court orders then how common people would do so.
“We have to run the system collectively and you know what would happen if the system does not run” the CJ remarked.
Strict security arrangements were made during the hearing.more than 60 PPP Sindh MPA’s including Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza and law minister Ayaz Soomro were also present in the court.
The hearing was adjourned till April 25.
