Peshawar: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman escaped a life attempt when a suicide bomber blew himself up while his convoy was passing through the road in Charsadda area of Peshawar, killing at least 13 people and injuring another 29 on Thursday.
Sources said that Police Inspector Jamrood Khan, including three Anti-Terrorism Squad personnel were among the dead.the dead and injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital. Earlier on Wednesday a bomb had ripped through near JUI-F convoy killing at least seven people on the spot near Sawabi Motorway Interchange.
JUI-F spokesman Mufti Abrar told media that windscreen of Maulana’s vehicle were shattered in the attack.He said that Fazl was shifted to another Vehicle, adding that all of his security guards received injuries and were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar.
Maulana Fazl while talking to media said that though he was safe his guards were injured in the attack.
On a question he said that he was not receiving life threats and he didn’t know who were behind such attacks, however he termed the attack as coward action.
Fazl said he was going to address ceremony in Darul Uloom Islamia, however he canceled his progarmme to attend the ceremony after the attack.
Ex Khyber Pukhtunkha chief minister Akram Durrani and former federal minister Azam Swati were with Maulana when the incident took place.
