Islamabad: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), for the week ended on 24 March, for the lowest income group up to Rs.3,000, has registered decrease of 0.18 percent over the previous week.
The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 299.08 points as against 299.61 points registered in the previous week, according provisional figures of Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).
The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000 2001=100 covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.
SPI for the combined group registered decrease of 0.22 per cent as it went down from 285.12 points in the previous week to 284.50 points in the week under review.
As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review witnessed increase of 15.91 percent.
As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs.3001-5000, Rs.5001-12000 and above Rs.12,000, decreased by 0.16 percent, 0.30 percent and 0.19 percent respectively.
During the week under review average prices of 11 items registered decrease, while that of 23 items increase with the remaining 19 items’ prices unchanged.
The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included tomatoes, onions, egg hen (farm), potatoes, gram pulse (washed), masoor pulse (washed), red chillies, vegetable ghee (loose), wheat flour (average quality), LPG(11 kg cylender) and wheat (average quality).
The items which registered increase in their prices included voil (printed), bath soap, chicken (farm), coarse latha, electricity charges, cooked beef, sugar, lawn, salt (powdered), bananas, washing soap, curd, mutton, cooked dal, mustard oil, gur, moong pulse (washed), firewood, mash pulse (washed), shirting, rice basmati (broken), garlic and milk (fresh).
The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included rice (irri-6), beef, bread (plain), milk (powdered), vegetable ghee (tin), cooking oil (tin), tea (packet), tea (prepared), cigarettes, sandal (gents), sandal (ladies), chappal, kerosene, electricity bulb, match box, gas charges (up to 3.3719 MMBTU), petrol, diesel and telephone local call.
