Karachi: Pakistan Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan has said cricket diplomacy can play an important role in resolving various issues between Pakistan and India including the improvement in economic relations.
Addressing a news conference, the minister said the two countries are facing similar problems like poverty and illiteracy and both Pakistan and India have joint responsibility to tackle these problems.
Referring to the law and order situation in Karachi, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said the government is taking political stakeholders on board to restore peace order in the port city. On energy crisis, the minister said, the government is striving to tap alternate energy resources for bridging gap between demand and supply.
She further said that PPP has always come to power through votes and not through back door. Replying to a question, she said that a section of the media has twisted the statement of President Asif Ali Zardari.
She said the president has, in fact, said at Baitul Maal function where she was also present, that the PPP government will remain in power as long as it enjoyed the mandate and support of the people of Pakistan.
The President had said that only people will decide who will sit in the presidency. His remarks, to the contrary, were twisted by a section of media, she noted.
