Mumbai: Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by 112 runs in a match of cricket World Cup 2011 at Wankhede Stadium, Membai on Friday and got top position inĀ Group A.
Muttiah Muralitharan got four wickets while Ajantha Mendis took two wickets. Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Kuasekara, Angelo Methews and Tillakarante Dilshan grabbed one wicket each.
New Zealand skipper Ross Taylor scored 33 runs, while James Franklin, Jacob Oram, Jesse Ryder, Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptil scored 20,20, 19, 14 and 13 runs, respectively.
Earlier, Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Snagakkara won the toss and chose to bat first. They scored 265 runs for the loss of nine wickets in allotted 50 overs.
Sangakkara played a captaincy inning and scored 111 runs. Mahela Jayawardene scored 66 runs while Mathews scored 41 runs.
Tim Southee took three wickets while Nathan McCullum, Scott Styris and Jacob Oram got 2, 1 and 1 wicket each.
Sangakkara was declared man of the match.
