Islamabad: All Pakistanis in Tokyo area are safe and sound, said Pakistan Foreign Office Spokeswoman Tahmina Janjua.
The spokeswoman said that the Pakistani community in the Tokyo area is also reportedly safe as well as the officials of the Pakistan embassy
A magnitude-8.9 earthquake hit northeastern Japan Friday, generating a tsunami as high as 10 metres that swept away people, cars, boats, crops and buildings, officials said. At least 1000 people have been killed, a news report said.
The Embassy is trying to get in touch with Pakistanis closer to the area most affected by the earthquake and the tsunami in the North East of Japan. Telephone contacts with the North East are currently not fully operational, the spokesperson said.
