Bagram: Taliban militants have attacked the renowned Bagram Air Field on Friday near Afghanistan Capital.
They charged the airfield by heavy weapons including rockets. However no causality has been confirmed yet.
The Taliban has accepted the responsibility for the attack, claiming that coalition forces had faced severe losses in this attack.
It is pertinent to mention here that Bagram Air Base is considered as main and safest base for the foreign soldiers. This airbase is defamed for inhuman sentences to detainees and was become first time under lime light in 2009 when a British journalist Redlay Maryam revealed that one Pakistani woman was detained in the base.
It is home to thousands of US military personnel and civilian contractors. Hundreds of detainees are also being held at the military base.
The International Committee of the Red Cross in May 2010 confirmed reports on the existence of a secret detention facility at the Bagram airbase.
The base is the frequent target of rocket and mortar attacks. Last year, militants launched more than a dozen attacks on Bagram, killing several US-led troops.
Insecurity is on the rise across the country despite the presence of over 150,000 US-led forces there.
At least 2,361 US-led troops in Afghanistan have lost their lives since the 2001 invasion — which was launched with the official objective of curbing militancy and bringing peace and stability to the country.
