Srinagar: In disputed Kashmir, veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, has said that India cannot suppress the ongoing Kashmiris’ freedom struggle through illegal detentions and house arrests.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Gilani, who is under house arrest, in Srinagar said that the occupation authorities could not cow down Kashmiris through use of brute tactics.
He termed his illegal house arrest as the authorities’ frustration. “Kashmiris will continue their freedom movement till resolution of the Kashmir dispute according to their aspirations and in accordance with UN resolutions,” Gilani added.
Meanwhile, the spokesman of the forum patronised by veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, in a statement issued in Srinagar, condemned the house arrest of Syed Ali Gilani. “The authorities had illegally detained Gilani under the draconian law, PSA, for nearly 40 days last year. After his release, he was continuously kept under house arrest for 140 days,” he maintained.
He said that the authorities wanted to prevent Gilani from public interactions. “Gilani was scheduled to visit Sopore to extend condolence with the families of two girls who were killed by unidentified gunmen last month. After Sopore, Gilani intended to visit Chogul Handwara and Maloora where a youth Manzoor Ahmad Magray was killed by Indian troops and three children of a family were killed in an explosion caused by a shell,” he maintained.
It is pertinent that Indian police detained Syed Ali Gilani at the Srinagar Airport soon after his arrival from New Delhi.
