An economical spell by Abdul Razzaq in the game against Canada on Thursday saved him from the machinations of Coach Waqar Younis who wants him out of the team, sources said.
Team sources told The News Tribe that the Coach has been trying to oust Abdul from the team for long, but the all-rounder’s performance has not let him succeed in his plans.
He would have thrown Abdul out of the team even during the series against South Africa, but his magnificent hundred that won Pakistan the second game of that series cemented his place in the team for at least the next series.
Then he again played a match-winning role in the third Twenty20 game against New Zealand.
Abdul has been batting at No. 8, which has not allowed him to do much. In bowling, he has been utilized only for five overs in most of the games. All was set for Waqar to get him dropped and bring someone else in, but his thrifty bowling against Canada once again foiled the evil designs of Younis. Abdul gave only 16 runs in his seven overs and picked up an important wicket as well. It was after a very long time that Abdul got to bowl seven overs.
