Islamabad: After the arrest of Raymond Davis, alleged CIA agent and accused of killing two Pakistanis in Lahore on January, a list of foreigners who have diplomatic and non diplomatic immunity, has been presented in the National Assembly of Pakistan on Friday.
The United States has 851 officials with diplomatic immunity in Pakistan, which is also the largest number of such officials among countries with diplomatic missions in Pakistan.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar in written response presented the details of diplomats enjoying diplomatic immunity, in the NA during question hour on the question raised by Sajjid Ahmed.
Hina Rabbani informed the NA that 2570 diplomats of 78 countries present in Pakistan have diplomatic immunity out of which 1919 are appointed on diplomat positions and 651 are working on non-diplomatic posts.
She said that 851 US nationals have right of diplomatic immunity out of which 554 are working on diplomatic posts and 297 are working on non-diplomatic posts in Pakistan. She said that 170 British diplomats have right of diplomatic immunity out of which 167 were working on diplomatic positions and three are working on non-diplomatic posts.
Rabbani told that out of 168 diplomats of Saudi Arabia 134 have immunity, India has 117 diplomats and 26 have immunity, Germany has 56 diplomats and 54 have immunity, Afghanistan has 60 and 57 have immunity, Italy has 61 and 34 have immunity, Turkey has 28 diplomats and 25 have immunity and Iran has 64 diplomats and 55 enjoy immunity in Pakistan. She told that 98 of Russia, 87 of China and 60 of France diplomats also enjoy immunity in Pakistan.
She told that 31 diplomats of US Lahore consulate, 30 of Karachi US consulate have the right of diplomatic immunity and one US national who is working in Karachi consulate on non-diplomatic post.
She told that 58 US national are working in Peshawar US consulate and 50 have right of Diplomatic immunity.
