Kabul: At least eight people were killed and 30 others injured in a suicide car blast in in Khost province, some 150 km southeast of the Afghan capital Kabul, on Friday morning, officials said.
“Police at a checkpoint identified a suspect as a suicide bomber this morning but the attacker detonated his explosive-laden car before being shot by police,” provincial police chief Abdul Hakim Ishaqzai told a foreign agency.
According to Ishaqzai, eight people including six civilians and two policemen were killed besides the bomber in the blast in Prozha Pul district.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has claimed responsibility for the attack, saying nearly a dozen of policemen had been killed and five police vehicle destroyed in the explosion.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai has condemned the attack and described it as a cowardly act.
