New Dehli: Indian security forces detained famous Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan at the IGI airport in New Delhi on Sunday evening for allegedly carrying a huge amount of undeclared foreign currency.
The 37-year-old, nephew of Pakistani singing legend Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan arrived here on a flight from Karachi and was intercepted by the personnel from directorate of revenue intelligence acting on a tip off, official sources said.
They said Khan was carrying a huge amount of US$120,000 which he did not declare to the immigration authorities. One other person accompanying him has also been detained, the sources said.
Khan is being questioned about the amount, they said.
It is pertinent to mention here that Khan has won four Indian awards.
Pakistani High Commissioner in India Shahid Malik has said contact is being made with Indian official in this regard and Khan will be provided every legal support.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik has also contacted Malik to discuss the issue.
