New Dehli: Noted Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has been arrested in India over violating foreign currency act on Sunday evening.
Indian security officials said that Khan had carried undeclared money of US$ 124,000 and was arrested after long interrogation of six hours, The News Tribe correspondent in New Dehli reported. He said Khan has been shifted to Revenue Office, New Dehli.
It is stated that khan manager Shri Vastav gave him the money at Indra Gandhi International Airport, New Dheli before he was trying to left for Karachi from New Dehli. His manager has also been arrested.
Pakistani pop star will be presented before court on February 14.
The 37-year-old, nephew of Pakistani singing legend Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan had arrived on IGI Airport and was intercepted by the personnel from directorate of revenue intelligence on a tip off, official sources said.
It is pertinent to mention here that Khan has won four Indian awards.
Pakistani High Commissioner in India Shahid Malik has said that contact is being made with Indian official in this regard and Khan will be provided every legal support.
Rheman Malik, Pakistan’s Interior Minister, also contacted with Malik over the issue.
