Islamabad: Federal Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s refusal to join the federal cabinet at a time when the court issued arrest warrants for former president Pervez Musharraf raises many questions.
The minister on Sunday said that Qureshi had not been asked to sign any summary regarding Raymond Davis, who killed two Pakistanis youths in Lahore.
She said that the former minister was issuing statements over Davis issue after he was not given ministry of his own choice, adding that why he did not express his reservations over the issue when he was at the helm of affairs.
Earlier, ex-foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi during his farewell visit to the Foreign Ministry said on Saturday that he had denied US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to confirm that Raymond Davis enjoyed diplomatic immunity. He said his party is down on knees asking him to rejoin federal cabinet.
Qureshi said the US Secretary of State telephoned him and pressurised to confirm the diplomatic immunity of the US citizen but he denied. He also said that later Cameron Munter phoned him from Washington and said if Raymond’s diplomatic immunity is not confirmed then he (Qureshi) will not be going to meet Hillary in Munich.
Meanwhile, Federal Minister Khurshid Shah while talking to a private television has said that Qureshi has no differences with the government and would rejoin the federal cabinet soon.
