Karachi: Employees of Pakistan International Airline’s (PIA) continued their protest on the third consecutive day on Thursday, leaving thousands of passengers stranded.
The employees demanding removal of Managing Director Captain Ejaz Haroon have been staging sit-in in airports across the country for three days.
PIA sources said that at least 7000 passengers were affected due to the on going protests.
Joint Action Committee (JAC), an umbrella of various PIA organisations, announced on Wednesday night to observe complete strike until the MD resigns.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had formed a committee to address the issue but it had not brought any fruits so far.
It may be mentioned here that the PIA employees are protesting against a proposed decision of the administration for handing over the several operations of the national carrier to the Turkish Airline while the defence ministry on Wednesday spell out the impression saying that the airline could not enter in any agreement with a foreign airline without approval of the federal government, adding that there were no plans to hand over the operations to any airline.
