Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday stopped the federal government from handing over Raymond Davis to the US.
The court ordered that Davis’s name be put on the Exit Control List (ECL). The Advocate General, Punjab, contended that the US Embassy has not claimed immunity for its national, while the interior ministry told the court that though the embassy declared Davis as diplomat but has not proved that so far.
LHC Chief Justice Ejaz Chaudhry sought elaborated response from the foreign and interior ministries in the case and stopped the federal government from handing over Davis to the US.
Earlier, Petitioner Barrister Iqbal Jaffery filed a petition in the LHC pleading that Davis was responsible of killing three Pakistanis while the government was planning to hand him over to the US
Raymond Davis killed two Pakistanis in Lahore last week. The hearing was adjourned till February4.
