Islamabad: The characterless performance of Pakistani actress Veena Malik in a popular Indian reality show “Big Boss” is being harshly criticised in the society.
Majority of the viewers are of the view she has damaged Pakistani culture and customs, bringing shame to the country.
A special program was aired by a private television channel to discuss the issue in which people from different walks of life, especially showbiz and students expressed their views.
Atiqa Odho, a Pakistani actress, taking side of Veena Malik said that she had done nothing bad in the reality show. She said hypocrisy and double standard has emerged in the Pakistani society.
We as a nation are criticising Veena owing to her performance in the show but on the hand we watch Indian movies and dramas, which feature same things, she said and added that Indian movies and culture has effected Pakistani nation.
Famous Pakistani film producer and director Syed Noor strongly criticised Veena for her bold performance. He said actors are considered cultural ambassadors of any country but her performance was disgraceful.
He said Veena should have thought prior to playing such a role in the show that it might bring a bad name not only for her but for the country.
He said he is not against of going and performing abroad but all the things should be within the limits.
Syed Noor said he has always advised Veena to remain within boundaries of our culture.
Sania Saeed, a famous Pakistani TV artist, said our big fault is that we as an audience endorse sensitisation. She said whenever Pakistani actors go abroad they face criticism.
She said we have never appreciated the artists who promote our soft image abroad like Rahet Fateh Ali Khan, Ali Zafar and Ustad Amanat Ali Khan.
She said that Veena is an entertainer and she did her role in the show just to gain public attraction.
Ali Saif (Begam Nawazish Ali), host of a famous TV show who also participated in the same show, said that conspiracies are being hatched to damage the image of Pakistan through different ways. He said this is also a part of that conspiracy.
Majority of the audience present in the studio said she could have shown her talent at home, urging a ban on her entry into the country.
