Tokyo: A huge bluefin Tuna received a record $400,000 auction at Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo on Wednesday.
It has been reported that a giant Tuna, weighing about 754 pounds, considered as a high weighing fish, broken all the past records of auction by earning a record price of $396,700 in the first auction of the year at the world’s largest wholesale fish market in Japan.
As estimated, the $400,000 Tuna went for almost $1,157 per kg, which is quite a celebration for Tsukiji fish market with the start of the New Year. According to the reports, more than half of the world’s bluefin Tunas are consumed by Japan, approximately 80% of the Atlantic and the Pacific bluefins.
The expensive $400,000 tuna, caught off the island of Hokkaido, was purchased by Ricky Cheng, owner of Hong Kong sushi chain.
