Cape Town: India were well placed at 142 for two at the close of play on the second day of the third and final test against South Africa thanks to a 114-run unbeatable partnership between Gambhir and Tendulkar.
Gambhir was not out on 65, which included eight fours, with Tendulkar on 49, which included five fours.
India lost Sehwag on 19 when Steyn had him caught by Smith. South Africa achieved another big wicket when they run out Dravid with the scoreboard at 28.
Earlier, South Africa managed to add 130 runs to their overnight score of 232 thanks to brilliant 161-run innings from Kallis. It looked at one stage that South African innings would be wrapped up around 300, but Kallis persisted and carried the total to 362 with some help from Harris and Tsotsobe. Indian quick bowlers struck quick blows as they removed Prince, Boucher, Steyn and Morkel within the space of 21 runs. The last two wickets added 79 runs.
