Islamabad: On the call of religious parties, a countrywide shutter down and wheel jam strike is being observed on Friday against the reported attempt of government to amendment the blasphemy law.
Almost all major political and religious parties, transporters and business community have supported the strike as shops, markets and business centres are seen closed in all the major cities, including Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Quetta, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Hyderabad and Karachi.
Protest rallies and demonstrations are being carried out while seminars are also being held across the country against any proposed amendments to the blasphemy law.
In Karachi, no public transport is available and commuters are facing difficulties. A big rally has been planed from Numaish Chowrangi to Jama Cloth Market.
The strike call was given by the “Namoos-i-Risalat” conference held recently under the banner of Majlis-i-Tahafuz-i-Khatm-i-Nabuwwat.
