ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has received ‘flawed’ notification of local bodies’ act from provincial government of Punjab on Sunday.
Following the ECP’s order, Punjab government sent amended notification for local bodies’ election across the province but became controversial on the spot, sources said.
The provincial government removed the word ‘non-partisan’ based election from the act but have not specified ‘party-based’ local bodies’ poll despite receiving clear order of ECP.
It should be mentioned that the Lahore High Court (LHC) had directed the provincial government of Punjab for holding party-based local bodies’ election on November 7, whereas, ECP decided to fulfill the judiciary orders.
Legal experts told TheNewsTribe that the incomplete amendment could cause significant legal flaws in commencement of the local bodies’ election in Punjab.
