ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday issued contempt of court notice to Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, the former prime minister, over influencing the proceeding by sending a letter to chief justice.
The former prime minister had written a letter to the chief justice on March, requesting the formation of judicial commission to probe the rental power case.
During the hearing over the letter, the chief justice remarked that the court would issue notice to Ashraf saying he had tried to influence the court.
Waseem Sajjad, the counsel of Ashraf, argued that his client had not influenced the court. “Hundreds of people write letter to the chief justice daily.”
On this, the CJ remarked that the ex-PM had not written letter as a common man but a prime minister. “It is a court not post office,” the chief justice added.
He said that the verdict had been issued in the rental power case and it would be implemented.
The court issued contempt notice to the former prime minister and ordered him to appear before the court as in-person.
Subsequently, the court adjourned the hearing of the case for two weeks.
