Karachi: Criminals in Karachi lack a semblance of fear which was evident in an incident wherein two police personnel were easily gunned down to commit robbery on Wednesday.
It occurred when robbers riding a bike opened fired on two police officials deputed for the security of a mobile cash van of a post office in Orangi Town, near Banaras Bridge.
Eyewitnesses said that the culprits took 70,000 rupees from the van as well as SMG rifle of one of the security personnel and easily fled from the scene.
The policemen were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, but both succumbed to their injuries in the way. They were later identified as 35-year-old Muhammad Naeem s/o Muhammad Atiq and 30-year-old Rizwan Ahmed s/o Jalaluddin Ahmed.
In other similar incidents in the city, 35-year-old Hafeez s/o Rajab Ali of Crown Security Company was shot dead when his fellow accidentally fired a bullet at him in Bin Qasim Town, Pakistan Textile Mill City.
Police said the deceased belonged to district Badin. His body was shifted to Jinnah Hospital for autopsy.
Body of a youth, shot dead by unknown people, was found near Christian Graveyard, sector 51-C, Ilyas Goth, Ibrahim Hyderi. His identity could not be ascertained till filing of this report.
Meanwhile, personnel of five South Zone police stations apprehended 15 suspects in a crackdown against drug-dealers and extortionists and reportedly recovered narcotics and five motorcycles from their possession.
