Quetta: Balochistan Assembly Speaker Aslam Bhootani refused to chair the provincial assembly session on Thursday.
Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani had written a letter to the speaker to summon the session for November 9-10 in Gwadar.
Bhootani opined summoning assembly session on the advice of Chief Minister Raisani was contempt of court after SC’s interim order in the Balochistan law and order case.
He said that after the SC order Raisani’s constitutional status was in doubt and he was no longer the chief minister. He said Balochistan’s governor should consult the Supreme Court.
On October 12, SC said in its interim order that the Balochistan government had failed constitutionally.
The order was critical of the provincial government stating that it had failed to halt human rights violations, kidnappings for ransom and target killings.
