It is in this context that Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) in collaboration with Renewable Energy Association of Pakistan (REAP) and Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) is organizing a three-day conference titled “Towards an Energy Secure Pakistan” on October 13 & 15, 2012 at Jinnah Convention Centre, Islamabad. The Conference is coinciding with the ‘2nd International Exhibition on Alternative & Energy Efficiency’ being organized by REAP.
The first session of the conference will be held from 3pm to 5pm on Saturday, 13 October. It is themed ‘Deployment of Alternative and Renewable Energy Technologies in Pakistan – Opportunities, Obstacles & Way Forward’. It will be chaired by Arif Alauddin, CEO AEDB, and addressed by ARE experts including Rahim Deyar (mini micro hydel), Habib-ur-Rehman (biogas), Irfan Afzal Mirza (mini wind turbine), Dr Sunil Jayasekara from Sri Lanka (biomass), and Tariq Rajwana (biofuel).
The second session of the conference, themed ‘Energy Conservation & Efficiency: Small Steps, Big Impacts’, will be held on Monday 15 October 2012 from 11am to 1pm. It will be addressed by energy experts such as Asad Mahmood, Asif Masood, Ch. Bashir Anjum and Engr. Raffat Ullah Khan. Masud Daher, former federal secretary and chairman of the National Tariffs Commission will chair the session.
The third and concluding session will also be held on the same day from 3pm to 5pm, which is themed ‘Mainstreaming Policies and Actions’ which will be addressed by DG-IPS Khalid Rahman and Ameena Sohail, coordinator IPS Tawanai program, who will present the conference summary and declaration. The session will be chaired by Mirza Hamid Hassan former secretary water and power.
