London: Prince Philip, husband of Queen Elizabeth II, was hospitalized Monday with a bladder infection in the midst of the ongoing Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the Duke of Edinburgh (who turns 91 on Sunday) is suffering from a bladder infection.
He’ll remain hospitalized for a few days for observation and will miss Monday evening’s Buckingham Palace pop concert celebrating the queen’s jubilee.
“He is, understandably, disappointed about missing this evening’s Diamond Jubilee Concert and tomorrow’s engagements,” the palace said in a statement.
The palace said the queen would still attend the concert, which will feature performances by Paul McCartney, Elton John and Stevie Wonder.
Last December, Prince Philip underwent heart surgery after experiencing chest pains at the royal family’s Christmas retreat. He and the Queen have been married for 64 years.
