Israeli Attacks Escalate Gaza Humanitarian Crisis: Hospitals Struggle to Cope

Gaza City: The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to escalate as hospitals issue urgent pleas for help amidst relentless Israeli air and artillery attacks.

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of 40 people and injuries to 218 others within the past 24 hours. Local sources report that at least eight people were killed in a strike on a house near the European Hospital in al-Fukhari, south of Khan Younis.

In addition, a 12-hour Israeli raid in the Far’a camp has resulted in the death of a 15-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man in nearby Tulkarem. Israeli forces have also detained numerous individuals in the ongoing offensive aimed at expanding control over the West Bank.

Reports from the Wafa news agency detail widespread casualties and destruction across Gaza: Two people were killed and others injured in a bombardment of a family home in Gaza City’s Shujaya neighborhood. Artillery attacks in Zeitoun and Tal al-Hawa neighborhoods, as well as in northern Rafah, have caused numerous casualties. Air raids have also targeted Deir el-Balah city.

In Rafah, five Palestinians were found dead, and 30 others injured, with power outages at Nasser Hospital hampering medical efforts. Saturday’s raid on the Nuseirat refugee camp, which the Palestinian group has called a “complex war crime,” left at least 274 dead, including 64 children.

The World Food Programme has suspended aid deliveries via the US-built pier due to safety concerns, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis. Meanwhile, Israeli war cabinet minister Benny Gantz has resigned, citing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s failure in managing the war and calling for early elections.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) reports that over half of Gaza’s buildings have been destroyed since the conflict began on October 7. The UN agency underscores the profound destruction and the long-term psychological trauma that will ensue, urging for an immediate ceasefire.

As of now, the death toll in Gaza has reached a staggering 37,124, with 84,712 injuries reported from Israeli attacks since October 7, highlighting the dire need for international intervention and support.
