Chief Justice Faez Isa Loves Karachi’s Kachori

Karachi: The Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Qazi Faez Isa, revealed his fondness for Karachi’s kachori, reminiscing how it was once available for just one rupee in the city.

Justice Isa recently revealed his love for the food in Karachi during a luncheon hosted by the Supreme Court Bar Association in the port city. He reminisced about his past in Karachi and mentioned that the taste of the city’s food remains memorable to him.

Kachori is a spicy deep-fried snack originating from India-Pakistan. It is popular among Indian expatriates and other South Asian communities. These golden-brown crispy kachoris are puffed pastry filled with vegetables, lentils, chicken, or beef. They are typically served with a special sauce and carrot pickle.

An early popular recipe similar to kachori comes from the Susruta Samhita, which describes a deep-fried pastry made of flour, jaggery, and ghee, filled with spiced mung lentils or minced meat.

Karachi has several famous spots for delicious kachoris. One such place is Sadiq Kachori House, located in the Delhi Mercantile Society area of the city. A single piece costs 25 rupees. Another well-known spot is Shahid Kachori near the Passport Office in Saddar, while a third location is known as Haji Noor Kachori, situated in the City Court area.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, addressing traders in Karachi, mentioned that investors from Saudi Arabia are coming to Pakistan, and urged local merchants to enhance business interactions by offering traditional dishes like nihari and kebabs.
