Islamophobia in India: Ban on Entry of Hijab-Wearing Women in Restaurant

Delhi: A series of Islamophobic incidents have been reported in India since the BJP came into power. In a recent incident, a restaurant owner in Delhi refused entry to women wearing hijabs.

According to media reports, hijab-wearing women friends stated that they always go out wearing burqas. However, when they entered a restaurant today to have lunch, the owner sent a waiter to tell them to remove their burqas before coming inside, otherwise they should leave.

Women wearing hijabs confronted the restaurant owner about this policy, but instead of addressing their concerns, he resorted to cursing and abusing them.

Such discriminatory policies only fuel religious hatred. In India, these policies are common and are used to discriminate against and suppress minorities, particularly Muslims, thus overriding every individual’s fundamental right to practice their religion freely.

It’s worth noting that Narendra Modi’s government is in power in India for the second consecutive term, and during these ten years, minorities, especially Muslims, have faced discrimination.
